Supervisor Joel Engardio has been an effective and sensible voice on the Board of Supervisors representing the Sunset.

That’s why the misguided recall attempt makes no sense.

Joel has delivered results. He has made our neighborhoods safer, our streets cleaner, and our city government more transparent. Importantly, he has answered the call of District 4 voters to fix the basic things.

He successfully fought to bring algebra back to middle schools and strongly supported merit-based admissions at Lowell High School. He initiated the successful Sunset Night Market with community partners. And he brought more police protection to the Sunset.

Protect our progress. Recalling Joel would mean rolling back the accomplishments our supervisor has achieved for the Sunset.

A Message from Supervisor
Joel Engardio

Serving the Sunset is an honor and privilege.

I strive to be a responsive and accessible supervisor, working to fix everything from trash cans to traffic flow.

Many Sunset residents are telling me they do not support a recall — and they include voters who don’t agree with every policy position I’ve taken.

They say the entirety of my work — not just one issue — is what matters. They like how I focus on public safety, fight for education, champion small businesses, and support creating the housing that families need to stay in San Francisco.

A number of Sunset residents are reaching out to tell me why they’re supporting me. You can read their statements below. Please add your voice, and thank you for standing with me.

No matter where you stand — both on the issues and the recall — I will serve your needs.

If you require assistance with anything in your neighborhood, my staff and I will be happy to help. My door, phone, and email inbox are open to you anytime and I am committed to working with you to address your concerns. Together, we can create our best Sunset.

District 4 Resident and Public School Dad

“I’ve known Joel for over 8 years and he’s always been committed to making San Francisco a great place to raise a family. He’s fought for more housing, safer streets, and better schools: the key ingredients for a family-friendly city.”

“Recalls should not become a tool for resolving political disagreements. They are a serious measure that should be used sparingly and only for legitimate, profound breaches of public trust. Joel has demonstrated integrity, responsiveness, and a genuine commitment to our district. I support him 100% and urge my fellow residents to reject this misguided recall attempt.”

Public School Parent and Sunset Resident

“I’m a native San Franciscan and I can see how Joel is a problem solver who has brought common sense to San Francisco politics and delivered results to our district. If we want authentic people like Joel in City Hall, we need to make space for respectful disagreements. He should not be recalled."

Emily Faxon.jpg

District 4 Resident

“I am opposed to the recall because Joel Engardio has been an energetic, caring, and communicative representative for District Four, who has made building local community and supporting local businesses the focus of his tenure on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.”

Sunset Resident and Father

"I’ve been served by four San Francisco supervisors in two districts since moving here over a decade ago, and Joel is by far the most accessible, responsive, and committed to my family’s safety and well-being. I can tell that he truly cares what’s best for our community and we have made great progress as a district since Joel assumed office."

Former District 4 Youth Commissioner

“I have been a proud resident of District 4 since I was born, and one thing that I admire about Supervisor Engardio is that he always does his research to make sure that we find the best solutions for our community, and he never hesitates to take action. Whether that is supporting housing development or supporting the Great Highway Project which will protect our beach against climate change so that it can still be admired by future generations, I trust Supervisor Engardio’s expertise.”

Realtor and Small Business Owner

"Joel is a good man. I know him personally and this recall is absolutely ridiculous. He is 90% with us on issues that are so important for the future of San Francisco. I am not a fan of the Great Highway closure, but we don’t die on the sword on this one issue. Do not cancel Joel."

Westside resident and father

"Joel should not be recalled. Joel was an instrumental ally to the Chinese community in the COVID era, helping advance our two main priorities: education access for youths and public safety for seniors."

Sunset Residents and Owners of Far Out Gallery on Taraval at 40th Ave

"We’ve owned Far Out Gallery (FOG) for 9 years on Taraval and appreciate Joel’s support for an Ocean Beach Park. We believe Taraval merchants on the west side will benefit as more residents and visitors venture to this new destination. "

Richmond District Senior

"I've never experienced a public servant so dedicated to raising community spirit through creative programs and frequent communication. Joel Engardio has worked in every way to engage people with all views to help improve traffic flow. Differing with a supervisor on a policy issue is a very weak reason to remove someone from office: especially a dedicated, effective supervisor like Joel."

Outer Parkside Residents

"Joel spearheaded the Night Markets and has always supported the San Francisco Police Department, local schools, businesses, and the Sunset Band. A recall would be a distraction and waste of resources during difficult financial times, and we need Mr. Engardio’s skills applied to the essential issues of our district. "

Community College Math Teacher and Sunset Resident

"Joel Engardio has been responsive and conscientious throughout his term as an SF Supervisor. In my 30+ years in the city, no other supervisor has rung my doorbell to introduce himself in person while running for office. Then, once in office, Joel personally answers email messages and makes sure that his staff takes care of whatever it is that concerns me and my family."

Parag Gupta.jpg

Sunset Resident and SFUSD Board Member-Elect

"I first met Joel when he knocked on my door when he ran for supervisor. I appreciate Joel’s focus on delivering results – from his 'fix-it files' to supporting better education for our children. He is always accessible and, while we may not always agree on everything, Joel always listens."

Supervisor Joel Engardio is facing a recall attempt because he was one of five supervisors to put Prop K to a democratic vote of the people. Passed by San Francisco voters, it closes the Great Highway to cars between Lincoln Way and Sloat Boulevard to create a new Ocean Beach Park.

This makes lemonade out of a lemon sent by Mother Nature. Due to severe coastal erosion, the state has directed San Francisco to close the southern section of the Great Highway. This connection to Daly City was already legislated to close. The northern section that connects the Richmond and Sunset neighborhoods remains open to cars 24/7 and is not affected by Prop K.

To ensure a smooth transition, Supervisor Engardio is working with Mayor Lurie to put key traffic improvements in place before any road closure.
